Drinking Sparkling Water Can Make People Hungrier and Fat. Says Scientists

You all will be surprised to know that drinking carbonated water or fizzy drinks can actually be the reason of Obesity.

In an experiment on rats at Birzeit University, researchers found that rats that were given carbonated water to drink gained more weight than those who only drank flat water. The fizzy water itself doesn’t contain any addictive that made rats gain weight but instead, the carbon dioxide in the water gave them urge to eat more.

The levels of the hunger hormone ghrelin, which your stomach releases when it’s empty, were significantly elevated in the rats who drank the fizzy water, making them able to eat 20 percent more than the other rats. The rats that drink carbonated water also showed a build up of fat in their organs, which is one of the symptoms of chronic obesity in humans.

These researchers subsequently done similar tests on human volunteers. The participants who drank sparkling water had ghrelin levels six times higher than those who drank only flat water.

As the result of the study, Tam Fry, a spokesperson for the UK’s National Obesity Forum said in a statement that, ”The Department of Health now curb the use of any chemicals that impinge on health and should include carbon dioxide if this effects is replicated in further studies.”

We would say, If you are already indulged in drinking carbonated water, don’t panic now as the research is still in its very early stages. The worst symptoms only showed up in rats so far.
