American Chop Suey




3 tbsp. butter

1 medium onion, chopped

1 green bell pepper, cut into diamond

2 garlic cloves, minced

1 pound chicken mince

1 tsp. dried oregano

1 tsp. dried basil

1/2 ground black pepper

Salt to taste

14.5-ounce tomatoes, diced

14.5-ounce tomato sauce

1/4 cup tomato paste

2/3 cup tomato juice

Pinch of sugar

1 pound boiled noodles

1 tbsp. cornflour

Oil for deep frying


  1. In a non-stick pan heat butter, garlic and onion. Cook for 2-3 minutes, add chicken mince and cook for 5-10 minutes. Now add diced tomatoes, tomatoes sauce, tomato paste and tomato juice and cook until reduced half. Add green bellpepper, oregano, basil, black pepper, salt to taste and sugar. Cook for more 5 minutes and remove from heat.
  2. Coat boiled noodles in corn flour and deep fry in slow heat until light brown.
  3. Place fried noodles on a serving platter and pour chicken and tomato preparation over it, garnish with basil and serve hot.
